At Wilde Aparthotels, we’re very proud of our Irish roots. Irish owned and inspired by the legendary wit and charm of Oscar Wilde, Wilde brings a taste of Ireland to some of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Every guest who walks through the doors is greeted with the famous Irish welcome, making them feel right at home.

St. Patrick’s Day has become a global phenomenon, with people all over the world donning green, enjoying traditional Irish music, and raising a glass of Guinness to toast to Ireland’s patron saint. While Dublin may be the heart of the celebrations, you don’t have to be in Ireland to immerse yourself in the festivities. Whether you’re in Manchester, Edinburgh, Berlin, or London, there are plenty of ways to embrace the Irish spirit. Here’s how you can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in each of our fabulous city locations.

Manchester

Manchester goes all out for St. Patrick’s Day, hosting the largest Irish Festival in Europe. From 8th – 17th March the festival is a whirlwind of Irish culture, with events spanning art, comedy, dance, music, sport, and theatre. The city’s legendary Irish parade features over 30 impressive floats, dancers, and marching bands, creating a spectacle not to be missed. The pop-up festival village brings the best of Ireland to the city, with live performances and a celebratory atmosphere. If you fancy some fantastic Irish fare and the best pint of the black stuff the city has to offer, book a table at Mulligan’s of Deansgate.

London

London’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are some of the biggest outside of Ireland. The highlight is the grand parade, which winds its way through the city’s streets, featuring extravagant floats, musicians, and dancers. Trafalgar Square becomes the hub of the festivities, hosting an all-day festival with Irish music, dance performances, storytelling, and delicious food stalls offering everything from Irish stew to soda bread. Traditional Irish pubs across London, from Camden to Covent Garden, are packed with revellers enjoying live folk music and, of course, creamy pints of Guinness.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh may be Scotland’s capital, but it fully embraces the Irish spirit on St. Patrick’s Day. The city’s lively pubs and bars, many of which have strong Irish roots, host fantastic celebrations filled with live music, dancing and Irish cuisine. Grassmarket, where our aparthotel is located, is a hotspot for Irish festivities, with Irish-themed pub crawls and traditional ceilidh dancing. The Three Sisters bar, known for its St. Patrick’s Day parties, transforms into a full-blown festival venue, featuring outdoor bars, street food, and live entertainment. Edinburgh’s Irish community also organizes cultural events, including storytelling sessions and folk concerts. If you like the sound of this, take a look at what’s on at the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Berlin

Berlin might not be the first place you think of for St. Patrick’s Day, but the city has a thriving Irish community that knows how to throw a party. Irish pubs across Berlin, such as The Lir and The Kilkenny Irish Pub, host live music sessions and special events, making them the perfect spots to soak up the atmosphere. On March 16th, locals and visitors alike can enjoy a free Irish concert with "I Felici" in the Königin-Luise Church blending Irish folk, Klezmer, and world music. On St. Patrick’s Day itself the Funkturm, Berlin’s historic radio tower in Charlottenburg, will glow green to mark the occasion. Visitors can admire the illuminated landmark and enjoy panoramic city views from its observation deck.
